K.C. Accidental – Captured Anthems/Anthems

November 9, 2010

They called it “K.C. Accidental.” The early collaboration between Kevin Drew (the K) and Charles Spearin tThe C) that set the template for their later work as Broken Social Scene.

Two recordings emerged from these sessions: “Captured Anthems for an Empty Bathtub” in 1998 and “Anthems for the Could’ve Bin Pills” in 2000. Difficult if not impossible to find for years, the two are now available together on cd thanks to Arts and Crafts Records.

But these are more than just interesting historical artifacts. The best tracks among those collected here stand on par with the best from Broken Social Scene’s first lp, “Feel Good Lost,” and have a timeless quality that make them still sound great, more than a decade after they were originally recorded.

“Something for Chicago,” from “Captured Anthems …,” is put to good use in the very nice short film, below.
