The Amazing – Wait For A Light To Come

August 12, 2010

The Amazing‘s “Wait For A Light To Come” is an album that’s snuck up on me these past few weeks: it just keeps sounding better and better with each repeated listen. The style is thoroughly modern, but the Swedish band’s combination of folk and psychedelic elements, instrumental virtuousity, and wonderful male-female vocal performances all conjure up memories of the best from Jefferson Airplane or Fairport Convention. The “lp” runs less than 30 minutes, but maybe that’s a good thing: the first four tracks, “Evil,” “And It Looks Like Today,” “Islands,” and “Head Beaches,” (three of which can be found on the band’s Myspace page) are undiluted, mid-to-late summer perfection.
